NSAA Uniform Rules
Each competitor’s uniform shall consist of shoes that can be securely fastened to the foot, shorts worn with the waistband above the hips, and a jersey that is tucked into the shorts.
Any visible shirt worn under the jersey must be unadorned and of a single color. Visible apparel worn under the shorts must be unadorned and of a single color. Visible items worn under both the jersey and the shorts do not have to be the same color. In relay events, visible apparel worn by more than one team member must be the same color, but not necessarily the same length.
Headbands and/or pre-wrap may be worn for hair control. In either case, the headband/pre-wrap must be of a single color and unadorned (no writing or decoration).
NSAA Inhaler Rules
Any competitor who uses an inhaler to relieve symptoms of asthma must give Coach Stern a copy of your doctor's order for the device.
Uniform Care
Never put a wet or perspiration-soaked uniform in a gym bag. Always allow the garment to dry out by hanging or laying flat.
Avoid wearing make-up while wearing your uniform.
Washing Instructions. Machine wash with like colors. Use mild detergent. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Remove from washer immediately—do not allow to lay on itself when wet. Line dry or use ‘air only’ setting on dryer.
Guidelines for Participation in Track Meets
The head coach, under advisement of his assistant coaches, will determine entries for all meets. Several factors influence entries for meets including:
Type of meet—varsity, jr. varsity, 9-10, freshman.
Number of participants allowed per event.
Athlete’s rank on the depth chart.
Readiness of an athlete to compete in one or more events.
Attendance at team meetings and practice.
Providing help at home track meets the athlete is not entered in.
Effort in all aspects of practice.
School work and behavior.
No athlete may participate in more than nine track meets involving four or more teams. This does not include the District Meet or the State Meet. Athletes wishing to enter a district, or state contest shall have been available to participate in at least 30% of the school’s varsity interscholastic contests prior to the district, or state contest.
Track Meet Policies
All athletes are expected to travel to and from track meets with the team on school-provided transportation. If you anticipate the need to go home with a parent/guardian, the parent/guardian must fill out a release form in the AD's office two days prior to the meet. Also, please be aware that a coach is not able to release athletes to anyone other than the parent/guardian. Do not leave a meet without the parent/guardian seeing the coach first.
Athletes may not leave the meet site unless given permission by a coach.
Athletes are expected to know and abide by the rules and regulations governing their event(s), uniform, and equipment.
Athletes are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with all NFHS, NSAA, and GISH regulations.
Athletes are responsible for bringing their own food and snacks.
PREVIOUS INFORMATION
Spring Tryouts for Show Choir, Cheerleading, Islandaires, etc
If you not able to schedule a later tryout, please understand that your absence counts against your participation in track meets the week following the tryouts.
Where do I fit in on the team?
Your event coach will do their best to insure that you are entered into track meets that best fit your level of ability.
Grade level (9–12) does not determine which team you are on—9th/JV or Varsity.
Everything counts! Don't expect to go to track meets if:
You are excessively absent from practice for any reason.
You can't get to practice on time.
You have failing grades.
Your attitude, effort, behavior is not in compliance with team expectations.
Unless we have cancellations, by the end of week 6, every eligible athlete on the team will have been in at least one track meet. Your performance in your event(s) at these early season meets will help determine which meets you go to for the remainder of the track season.
Unless we have cancellations, every eligible athlete will be in a minimum of two track meets.
Who goes to what meets?
Our guiding philosophy is to enter eligible athletes, regardless of grade level, in meets at which they will compete against athletes of similar ability.
Although there are many factors which determine who goes to what meets, and exceptions will be made, the following guidelines will apply:
In general, eligible athletes, regardless of grade level, who are in the top tier of their event and are capable of competing at a varsity level will go to varsity meets.
In general, eligible athletes, regardless of grade level, who are in the second tier of their event will go to major JV meets.
In general, eligible athletes, regardless of grade level, who are not in either the first or second tier of their event will go to minor JV meets and duals.
Look over this chart for specific information about who goes to each track meet on our schedule.

Team. Concern for the well-being of others is at the heart of great teams.
Choices. It's all about choices...and making the right ones.
Attendance Policies
Practice starts at 3:50. Be on time or bring a note.
Athletes are expected to check-in with their event group each day as they arrive for practice. If you are late, please check in with Coach Ramsey.
If you anticipate missing a track meet please let Coach Ramsey know as much in advance as possible.
Absence from two or more practices during any week of the season will result in disqualification from participation in track meets for the following week.
Excessive absence, regardless of reason may result in removal from the team.
Absences not reported to the Attendance Office are considered unexcused until the athlete provides a written note explaining the reason for the absence, or, I am able to confirm your absence by phone or e-mail. Athletes with unexcused absences are not allowed to participate in track meets until the unexcused absence is resolved.
Injury Management
Athletes with injuries will be referred to Todd Goshorn. No athlete is allowed to manage their own injuries or prescribe a rehabilitation plan for themselves.
Mr. Goshorn will keep me advised of your progress and readiness for competition.
Equipment
All school regulations regarding dress are enforced at practice.
It is strongly suggested that you leave all valuables locked in your locker or car during practice. This includes cell phones, mp3 players, jewelry, etc. School personnel are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
